Amir Khan vs. Kell Brook was a fight that could have and should have happened long ago. Earlier in the decade, they were two of the better welterweights in the world. Why it never happened depends on whom you ask. Brook often accused Khan of ducking him, and Khan never really considered Brook as he pursued Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. to no avail. Despite not fighting each other, they both enjoyed success over the decade, collecting several titles between them. One last attempt would be made to make this fight would happen in 2019. Khan opted to fight Terence Crawford where he was knocked out in six rounds.
Recently Amir Khan has stated he wants one more fight before he closes out his career. Low and behold, he wants that fight to be Kell Brook. Clearly, in 2021 neither of these fighters are what they once were. Both are 34 years old (Brook will be 35 in May), and recent performances have not been impressive. Brook is 3-3 in his last six fights and was knocked out in two of them. Khan is 4-2 but those wins have come against mediocre competition at best.
Despite that, I think this is still an intriguing fight that can be made. It is also a fight that will sell well in the UK , and create one last big payday for both men. Better late than never I guess.
