With both Errol Spence Jr. and Terence Crawford in attendance at the Virgil Ortiz Jr. and Maurice Hooker fight, one would be hoping we are getting news about the highly anticipated matchup. The news we received however was nothing good. When asked about the Spence fight Crawford proclaimed “I am not thinking about, nor am I worried about Errol Spence”. This fight not happening would be one of the bigger disappointments in recent memory.
Many were hoping the promotional issues, and posturing over fight purses could be resolved to provide arguably the biggest fight in the entirety of the sport. Crawford’s Top Rank contract is up in October, which gives us a sliver of hope this fight can still happen. A loss between now and then removes the luster of a mega-fight between two undefeated, and in their prime champions. For now, at least Crawford has moved on, and maybe we should too.
